Welcome to Notes from the Microdistrict
Tacos, concrete high-rises, and making sense of millennial life in Sofia, Bulgaria
Hello and welcome to Notes from the Microdistrict.
This newsletter covers how to live a meaningful, authentic life in our strange present. Also: Eastern Europe, the concrete high-rises known as “панелки” or “Plattenbau”, and food. Tacos, in particular. 🌮 Expect culture commentary, soul-searching, and cautious inspiration.
My American partner and I are working as a taco-maker and a writer, respectively. Are we living the dream here in Sofia? What is the dream for our lost generation? Come to the Microdistrict so we can figure it out together.
I’d love to have you on board. Subscribe so you don’t miss the first issue.
A bit about me: I dropped out of a Columbia PhD a year ago, though not before racking up 3 Master’s degrees in architectural history. I am now a professional writer. I’ve lived in New York City, Berlin, and Oxford, UK. I dream of a supportive community where we can share the reality of being a creative individual in a messed-up world.
This newsletter is for you if you are thinking of an #altac or #postac career and wonder what it is like; if you are an expat in Eastern Europe or want to be one; and especially if you are a millennial asking yourself too many questions about whether you are doing enough, or the right thing.
If you like what you’re reading, you can also tell your friends.
